2006 Shandong (International) Cultural Industry Fair will kick off in Jinan on June 16. I am so honored  to invite the members from the Organizing Committee of the Cultural Industry Fair(OCSCF) to give us a brief introduction to the three-day event. First of all, please allow me to introduce the distinguished guests present at today’s conference:

On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Cultural Industry Fair(OCSCF), allow me to extend my heartfelt gratitude and warm welcome to friends from press circles.2006 Shandong (International) Cultural Industry Fair will kick off in Jinan on June 16.

[20:03:42]first of all, I''''d like to give a brief introduction to the three-day event.

[20:05:58]To carry out the scientific development concept and build Shandong into "a large and strong, wealthy and beautiful" province, province, the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee and Shandong Provincial Government made an important decision to develop cultural industry and build Shandong into a strong province in cultural sector.

[20:06:49]In the second half of last year, the local authorities worked out a plan to hold cultural industry fairs once every two years to prosper cultural industry by resorting to market mechanism. The fair to be held this year is the first.[20:09:41]Its supporters cover the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, the General Administration of Press and Publication, the Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. Our goal is to create a large platform for international cultural exchanges and economic and trade cooperation featuring specialties, high quality and multi-functions.

[20:10:35]Preparations

[20:10:46]With "culture, innovation and fortune" as its theme, the fair will be consisted of four parts: cultural projects offering; cultural products fair; cultural performances and displays; and cultural information exchanges.

[20:11:02]Exhibition arrangements have been complete

[20:11:20]The main meeting place is at the Jinan Shungeng International Exhibition Center. The four sub-exhibition areas are located at the Shandong Province Museum, the Shandong Province Gym, the Shandong Province Gallery and Shandong Mansion.

[20:11:45]To date, more than 1,600 booths have been occupied by 535 exhibitors from at home and abroad. Large and famous domestic and foreign cultural groups and corporations, such as Dazhong Newspapering Group, Shandong Radio Film and Television Bureau, Hai''''er Group, Langchao Group, International Chamber of Australia, BIK Company of Japan and Tak Kung Pao of Hong Kong will take part in the fair.

[20:08:08]Its sponsor is Shandong Provincial Government. The organizers are the Cultural Department of Shandong Provincial Government, the Provincial Radio Film and TV Bureau, the Shandong Provincial Administration of Press and Publication, the Dazhong Newspapering Group, the Shandong Publication Group and Jinan Municipal People''''s Government.

[20:12:14]The exhibits involves digital media, online animated cartoons, tourism, sports, publication, antiques, calligraphy and paintings. Non-material cultural heritages and local folk-custom cultural exhibits are on display outdoor. Visitors can also have a taste of special snacks and buy arts and crafts articles there.

[20:12:42]Preparations for 59 key activities have been finished. Five times of large-scale performances and 18 times of performances at the square will be presented. Nine high-level forums will be organized, including "Confucius culture and cultural industry", "protection of cultural resources", "promotion of cultural industry", "developing strategy of Shandong''''s radio film and TV industry", "development of publication industry", "development of China''''s arts and crafts industry", "calligraphy". "photography", "development of folk culture in Shandong" and "development of fine arts in Shandong".

[20:13:25]Exhibitions to show treasures of Palace Museum, apparels and ornaments of minorities of Guizhou Province, porcelains, paintings and calligraphy works collected by the Shandong Provincial Museum will be conducted.

[20:13:49]Security measures have been in place. We have attached importance to security and protection of intellectual property rights. Since May of this year, the related departments have checked all hotels, restaurants, airports and railway stations in Jinan.

[20:14:03]Operations have been organized to crack down piracies and entrenchment of IPR. The organizing committee have worked out detailed plans on food supply, security, sanitation and epidemic prevention as well public transport to guarantee everything is ok during the fair. Besides, 150 trained volunteers and 10 narrators have been on duty.

[20:14:55]Meanwhile, the third forum on Chinese enterprise culture will open tomorrow morning in Jinan. More than 400 representatives from nearly 250 domestic enterprises will attend the meeting.

[20:15:21]2. The fair has six major features:

[20:15:31]A. The fair shows cultural mien of ancient Shandong, which is one of important birthplaces of China''''s civilization. With a long history and inertia of historic culture, Shandong is the home of Confucius and Mencius. This is what we strive to display. One of the purposes the fair to score is to  show off and strengthen Confucius brand, find out modern economic value of the traditional culture and develop advantages of the province''''s cultural industry.

[20:16:12]B. The fair will give prominence to internationalization and innovation. Located in the lower reaches of the Yellow River and neighboring Bohai and Yellow Sea in the east, Shandong faces Korea Peninsula and Japan Islands across the sea. Based on regional advantages, the fair will become an important platform that Shandong joins global cooperation and work division. The fair has attracted more than 500 domestic and overseas cultural enterprises from 15 countries and regions, such as Australia, Indonesia, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong region.

[20:17:33]C. Strengthening functions of investment attraction and trade. With investment invitation as the core, the fair is not only a grand assembly of cultural fair, but also a platform from which cultural projects will be provided and cultural products be traded. We have developed the “Shandong’s cultural industry project database”, the first of its kind in the country. Up to now, more than 1,440 cultural projects for seeking investment have been collected. Of them, 360 projects plan to look for 100 million yuan each. Some projects even seek 5 billion yuan each.

[20:18:14]D. A dense atmosphere of festival has been built. We put forward the concept of "cultural grand assembly, people''''s festival" in a bid to turn the process of organizing the cultural fair into one that people fully enjoy the fruit of culture.

[20:19:36]E. Market mechanism has been used to organize the fair. The organizing committee has drawn out the principles of "government dominates, society participates and market operates in light of management standards". In addition to necessary policy support and service and a few start-up fund, the government does not directly involve in the fair. All activities are organized by Dazhong Newspapering Group with enterprises taking part in.  So far more than 70 million yuan has been raised for more than 80 cultural activities.

[20:20:50]F. Numerous high-ranking officials and distinguished guests will be present at the fair. The fair has drawn extensive attention from at home and abroad. Liu Yunshan, chief of the publicity department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, Xu Jialu, vice chairman of National People''''s Congress Standing Committee  sent congratulatory letters to the fair.

[20:21:56]Leaders from the Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio Film and Television, the General Administration of Press and Publication, and other ministries will attend the fair. Overseas senior officials and diplomatic envoys to China will also take part in the fair.

[20:22:33]Friends, 2006 Shandong Cultural Industry Fair is about to  open soon. We are confident of its success.
