Host: China, Japan and South Korean industrial exchanges, an important economic and trade event, will be held in Qingdao in March, 2006. It is jointly sponsored by the Shandong Provincial Government and related organizations of Japan and South Korea. Today we invite responsible officials of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPITP) Shandong branch and representatives of South Korea to answer your questions about the event.

Host: Present at today’s meeting are president Liu Fanghui of CCPIT Shandong branch, Curator Guo Fu Shan of Trade, Investment and Development Commune (KOTRA) of South Korea and Vice-president Song Geping of the CCPIT Shandong branch.

Host: Now President Liu Fanghui will give an introduction to the preparations and progress of the China, Japan, South Korea Industry Exchanges 2006 and related matters.

Liufanghui: Through joint efforts of the sponsors from China, Japan and South Korea, the industry exchanges (Qingdao) will be held in Qingdao on March 20, 2006 in 2006. Now, I’d like to give you some information about the event.

Liufanghui: Firstly, the basic state of the exchanges.

Liufanghui: £ºSponsored by the CCIPT, Chinese Chamber of Machinery and Electrical Import and Export, Shandong Provincial People’s Government, Qingdao City People’s Government, Japan Trade Promotion Organization and the Trade, Investment and Development Commune of South Korea, the event, a trade and cooperative activity of promoting machinery and electrical parts and products made by China, Japan and South Korea, will be organized by CCPIT Shandong branch. 

Liufanghui: This exchanges and exhibition will have a floor space of 25,000 square meters, which would offer 925 international standard booths, including 500 for Chinese participants,325 for Japanese side and  100 for South Korea. At the same time a high-level joint business forum for the three sides will be organized on March 20 in 2006.

Liufanghui: The industry exchanges is aimed at promoting the industrial cooperation among China, Japan and South Korea. The three countries will cooperate and push forward the progress of economic integration in East Asia .It is a major trend of the world’s economic development that the regional economy will be integrated day by day. East Asia is one of the world’s three big economic centers. The Asia’s economic development depends on East Asia, while that of East Asia rests in China, Japan and South Korea. The three countries’ geographical positions connect or near. Although each has different national conditions, circumstances and foundations, they have natural links and common benefits. Their economies complement each other.

Liufanghui: The complement of regional economy in a large scale will provide solid foundation for the cooperation between China, Japan and South Korea. There exists large potentials in cooperation in infrastructure construction, industrial shift and upgrade, development and utilization of resources, and environmental protection.

Liufanghui: Since China adopted the policy of reforms and opening-up, especially in recent years, the trade of China with Japan and South Korea has developed fast. Due to its location Shandong has unique superiorities in trade with Japan and South Korea, In the first 9 months of this year, the province’s exports to Japan was USD$6.2 billion, up 21.8% over the same period of last year; its exports to South Korea about US$ 4.7 billion, up 20.2%.

Liufanghui: The exchanges will be of great importance to the sustainable and healthy development of East Asia’s economy. It will put regional exchanges and cooperation, specially the cooperation in financing and technology, to a higher level. Meanwhile, it will build up a nice platform for us to carry out the Shandong provincial government’s strategy of “opening wider to the outside world in all directions and high level with priority on key projects”, “ undertaking industries shifted from Japan and South Korean and building Shandong Peninsula into a manufacturing industry base”, so as to strengthen cooperation and exchanges among the three countries in manufacturing and service industries as well as in investment.

Liufanghui: The exchanges and exhibition will establish more than 490 booths for traders dealing with parts and raw materials, 355 for trade and investment negotiations and more than 100 for the new and high-tech enterprises. Of the total, one fifth booths will be given to the procurement traders. Japanese purchasers will get 100 booths.

Liufanghui: Secondly, the main characteristics of the exchanges meeting.

Liufanghui: There are five outstanding features:

Liufanghui: 1, It will be a two-way exhibition. There are not only booths for the machinery and electrical manufacturers, processors, traders and service providers, but also booths for purchasing businessmen, who will establish booths to show the products to be bought. The number of booths of this kind will make up  one fifth.

Liufanghui:2, The exhibition has higher authorization. The CCPIT, the Japan development organization ( JETRO) and Korean Investments and Development Commune( KOTRA) are the three most powerful trade promotion organizations, which will be the very first to sponsor such a kind of event The functionary departments of the three countries support the activity. The machinery and electrical industrial organizations of the three countries will be the cooperators, reflecting the high-level economic cooperation with official background.

Liufanghui:3, The exhibition is of strong profession. It will devote itself to rendering help to machinery and electrical products producers, processors, traders, purchasers and service providers of the three countries.

Liufanghui:4, A large number of professional audience are expected to participate in the event .In addition to the ordinary visitors, the three countries will send professional groups to conduct negotiations involving business cooperation, trade and investment. Besides, 300 to 500 people are expected to take part in a symposium on business cooperation among the three nations.
 
Liufanghui:5, The organizing units will provide good service. The CCPIT Shandong branch working on the domestic and international exhibition business regularly has a group of professionals who realize characters of exhibition work, acquaint with advanced principles of international exhibitions and have abundant experience in organizating international professional expositions. The exhibitors are sure to achieve good results through their value-added services.

Liufanghui:Thirdly, the preparations of the exchanges meeting in the earlier stage.

Liufanghui: As the sponsors of China, Japan and South Korea attached importance to the event, they have set up secretariats and organizing committees respectively and established contact and coordinating mechanism. The Japanese and Korean sides started promotion and publicity activities three months ago and opened a website for the event

Liufanghui: The Japan development organization (JETRO) has incorporated its annual parts exhibition in China into the exchanges in 2006 and mailed materials to its relevant overseas representative offices. In order to expand influence of the exhibition, the Korean side plans to organize importers to attend the exhibition for purchasing talks at the event.

Liufanghui: The preparation work of the Chinese side has basically been in order and the exhibition place in Qingdao been determined. The working team and personnel have been in place. The three sides have lost no time in doing preparations, actively promoting and carrying out various kinds of work.

Liufanghui: Any work and activities can’t get away from the publicity support of the news medium.
